Come along on a sculpting adventure! In this class, we will learn the basics of working with Apoxie Sculpt Clay. Requiring no kiln or oven, but with very different properties than other air dry clays, this clay has it’s own personality. I will pass on what I’ve learned over the last 18 months working with it. This is a two day class in which we will make parts (like sculpting the face and adding elements to the structure) and in a well-timed fashion, we will pull it all together into a character you will love. You will gain knowledge and skills that you can take with you to learn to adapt the methods to your own style.
Materials Fee $25paid at beginning of class includes:
Each kit will be different so no two pieces will be alike
Wood Base Piece
Glass Pebble
Metal Piece (lug nut)
Screw
Watch Face
Supplies Needed to bring for Class:
Apoxie Sculpt Clay (there are two different kinds. I prefer the Apoxie SCULPT Clay, not the Apoxie Clay, Apoxie Sculpt is softer) : Amazon.com : Apoxie Sculpt - 2 Part Modeling Compound (A & B) - 1 Pound, White/Stone White : Sculpture Shaping Tools : Arts, Crafts & Sewing
Ball Stylus Set and Silicone Sculpting Tools: Here is an inexpensive set: Amazon.com: Clatoon 10Pcs Silicone Clay Sculpting Tool, Modeling Dotting Tool & Pottery Craft use for DIY Handicraft, Silicone Brush, Sculpture Pottery, Nail Art
Optional: My very favorite sculpting tool (I have literally been using this tool for almost 30 years!) is made by sculpter Phillippe Faraut. It is inexpensive (about $20 including shipping) and will last a lifetime: 7" Clay Modeling Eye Tool - PCF Studios
Needle tool – this is a tool with an actual needle, not an awl. You can make one at home or I will have a few for sale. I make mine about as thick as my little finger and make the end rounded so that I can use the rounded end to make eye sockets. Here’s a link to make one from polymer clay (I don’t bother to make mine fancy, just useful): DIY Needle Tool (Polymer Clay)
Decorative Elements: a few beads, buttons, glass eyes, whatever you like. Just a few (I will also have a few beads and things to share).
A few acrylic paints in colors you like – On my faces, I use Paper Artsy Fresco Finish in the color Chalk plus Golden Fluid Acrylics in Burnt Umber Light, Paynes Gray, Teal, Titanium White and Pyrrole Red Light. If you have other brands, that’s fine. Any other colors you like.
Golden High Flow Acrylic paint- Sepia color
Brushes -I love the Princeton Snap Series, particularly the Filbert size 4, Round sizes 2 and 0
